Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect behind many legendary styles associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, such as the pastel suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

Price's death comes just weeks after he unveiled his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in designing body-hugging looks made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he began working on pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included a number of outfits for her US tour after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world laments the passing to a genuine innovator whose impact on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
