American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in a good place" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, on the back of earning a podium spot for the fourth time in five World Cup races. The 41-year-old, who last week set a record by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her 142nd career World Cup top-three result. Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere Returning to the iconic venue for the first time in eight years, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place. "I didn't quite have enough direction on the first jump," the skier commented. "Subsequently, I performed strongly. I'm satisfied with my run today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough." This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also finished third in the downhill race on Saturday. A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement Vonn officially retired in February 2019 as a result of ongoing knee problems. However, she returned to racing in late 2024 after a major knee surgery. With less than two months remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are timely. She has one gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the 2026 Games. "At the Olympics, I will be fully ready," Vonn affirmed. Aiming for Further Glory In addition to her Games aspirations, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four overall crystal globes she has won over a professional journey spanning 20 years. She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table. This current World Cup campaign includes a total of nine races scheduled before the circuit finale in Norway on 21 March 2026.
