The acclaimed police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th installment, announced by the broadcaster.

A brand new six-episode series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, according to the network.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."

The previous series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that attracted over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only arrived recently.

New Challenges for AC-12

The seventh season begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.

Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat misconduct within the police force.

Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a offender.
