The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It features the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching backstories for characters including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

Overall, the intro appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when cast member the performer wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Including singing from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. This track that excites you before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has stated that the animated show will have some surprises and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as among these.
