Local Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.
City officials said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important representative said the attack left him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
